Norma Gordon (Ashton) passed away on Saturday, December 2, 2023 at the age of 93 in hospice care at Jenner’s Pond Retirement Community, West Grove, PA.
Born in Warren RI, Norma was the daughter of the late William and Cora (Fobert) Ashton. The family moved to Tiverton, RI where, in junior high school, Norma met a boy named Earl. Norma and Earl S. Gordon shared the next 70 years together — 62 happily married.
As a housewife, Norma raised three sons: Steven, Scott, and Eric. With Earl’s career at DuPont, Norma and her family lived in Wilmington, DE, Chattanooga, TN, Waynesboro, VA, Londonderry, Northern Ireland, and Geneva, Switzerland. Norma enjoyed playing golf, was a member of the Junior Board of Christiana Care, and was a committed walker; one could see her strolling the neighborhood most days when she could coerce someone to take her. She was an avid reader — loved a good thriller — and wouldn’t say no to a glass of white wine in the evening. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and had many dear friends at Jenner’s Pond.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl and their oldest son, Steven Gordon of Newtown, CT. Norma is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law Scott and Patricia Gordon of Nashua, NH, Laureen Trotto of Newtown, CT, and Eric Gordon and Lois Krahn of Scottsdale, AZ, her seven grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
“Normer,” as she pronounced her name in her life long New England accent, was the last of her family’s generation; her mental sharpness, wry wit, and lively conversation will be deeply missed.
