Patricia Clark Bates passed away in West Grove, Pennsylvania on Monday, April 26, 2021, after a long battle with the after-effects of glioblastoma.  She was 80 years old.

Pat was born and grew up in San Francisco.  She attended West Portal Grammar School and Lowell High before graduating from San Jose State in 1963.  In her senior year, Pat was named the most involved student of her class, a trait that she followed throughout her adult life.  In 1966 she married a naval officer who was on exchange duty with the Canadian Navy in Halifax, Nova Scotia at the time. Subsequent assignments were in Norfolk, Virginia, the Washington, D.C. area and San Diego, California.  Pat continued her involvement in social issues throughout those years, while working for various companies as a human resource manager.  She was President of the Dulles Chapter of the League of Women Voters; President, Society for Human Resource Management, Dulles Chapter; an on-air reporter for the televised Richmond Reports; President, Lake of the Woods Lioness Club and was active in the Susan Allen Republican Women’s Club.  After her husband’s retirement from the Navy, they lived in the Dulles area of D.C. until 1994, when they moved to Lake of the Woods near Fredericksburg, VA.  In later years they moved to Kennett Square and then to West Grove, PA.

Pat was pre-deceased by her daughter, Lisa Bates.  She is survived by her husband, Glenn; daughter, Karin Flanigan and son-in-law, Kevin; grandchildren, Jack, Grace and Clare Flanigan.  Pat is also survived by her sister, Barbara Steffey and her brothers, Albert Clark Jr., and William Clark.

Interment will be at Arlington National Cemetery.  Timing is unknown due to the current backlog of requests, but it is expected to be in November 2021 - January 2022 timeframe.  When the date is known it will be available at https://secure.funeralwebhosting.com/lgw/notices/Patricia-Bates
