Richard D. Greenwood of Kennett Square passed away on April 17, 2025. He was 82 years old. Dick was a man of many talents and interests. He embraced the philosophy that life was driven by a matrix of moments and lived his life honoring and promoting that concept. He was born in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, and lived in Syracuse, New York before joining the Navy out of high school. He then moved to California to take advantage of the educational system. Immersed in family and jobs, he worked as a technical representative for Hughes Helicopter and went to Vietnam as a civilian. This is where he met life long friends. He graduated from El Camino Community College, Cal State LA and earned a Master’s degree from Syracuse University. He joined the faculty at Montgomery County Community College and taught English, served as a Dean in Academic Affairs as well as the Director of Online Learning. Dick loved to write: he contributed to the Nor'easter magazine, Upper Bay Boating and wrote three books. His final book was a novel - “A Matrix of Moments”. An avid photographer for more than 50 years, he continuously reinvented himself and his craft and used photography to connect even more deeply with his hobbies and interests. Dick was more than willing to tell you he had a great life. He talked about how lucky he was to own airplanes, horses, boats and have so many great adventures all over the world. He will be missed by his loving family Joan McClintock, Kurt Leimbach, Christa Leimbach LiVecchi (Mario and granddaughter Zoe) and was predeceased by his son Steven Greenwood. He is survived by his brothers Edward Greenwood (Judy), Tom Sulock (Lisa), Stephen Sulock (Malia) and his sister Debra Nordby (Ron) as well as many wonderful nieces and nephews. He will be missed by many friends, colleagues and students. We will miss his humor, insights and his ability to embrace the matrix of moments that get us from place to place.
The Celebration of Life for Dick Greenwood will be held on Friday, May 23, 2025 at the Red Clay Room (27 Dalmation Street, Kennett Square, PA 19348). The service is scheduled for 11:00 AM, with a luncheon following from 12:00 - 2:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Dick's honor can be made to the Montgomery County College Foundation or the Chester County Camera Club
