Roger Bangert of Chester County, PA, and Cape May County, NJ, passed away peacefully on April 24, 2022. Born in Rahway, NJ and raised in Woodbridge, NJ, Roger lived for over 30 years in Metuchen, NJ, before moving to Lincoln University, PA in 2003 where he eventually retired. He was also a long-time summer resident of Cape May, NJ.
Roger graduated from Woodbridge High School in Woodbridge, NJ and received his Master of Arts Degree from Manhattan School of Music in New York City. He taught music throughout his career and was the Band Director at Scotch Plains High School, Rahway High School and lastly, Elizabeth High School for many years until his retirement. His passion and drive resulted in multiple championships for the Elizabeth High School marching band and he was an inspiration for many students during his teaching tenure.
In addition to being the Music and Band Director at Elizabeth High School, Roger was a very talented trombone player himself and was a member of the Garden State Arts Center House Band that played for several famous entertainers such as Barry Manilow, Johnny Mathis, and Liberace. He also toured with the Warren Covington Orchestra in England in his younger years.
Roger loved going to the movies, spending time in Cape May with his family, meeting friends at Starbucks for his morning coffee, and watching sports, especially his favorite baseball team, the New York Yankees. He also was immensely proud and took incredible joy in watching his grandchildren's athletic and academic success right up to his passing.
Roger was a loving husband for over 40 years to Mary Bangert, also deceased. He is survived by his son, Scott; daughter, Jill; son-in-law, Brian; grandchildren, Erin and Sean.
