Roger Bauer Obituary

Roger Bauer, age 78, passed away on April 3, 2021 from heart disease.  He grew up in a small Illinois farming town.  He graduated from Elizabeth High School and was a star player on the basketball team.  After a brief stint working in a factory, Roger went on to college and ultimately earned his doctorate in clinical psychology at Michigan State University.  Roger became a prominent psychotherapist in Binghamton, NY, helping many people.

Roger brought his Eagle Scout earnestness, and love of the land to the woods of NE Pennsylvania.  He built his own house powered by one of PA’s few hydroelectric home plants and heated with the timber from his land.  His life in the woods involved morel hunting, gardening, sugaring for maple syrup and hikes up the mountain.  He was an avid and eclectic reader enjoying Louie Lamour, Cormac McCarthy, Tolstoy and Shakespeare.  He loved his quiet life, but always enjoyed it when children and friends filled the house with life, laughter, and spirited discussions. But most of all he adored his wife Edna and the energy she brought to his life, including a loud and loving family.  Together they nurtured a warm and inviting home surrounded by beautiful art and the sounds of the rushing Cascade Creek. For years Roger and Edna hosted Thanksgiving in the Woods that brought friends and family together.  Life adventures included cross country motorcycle trips, world travels, canoeing on the Susquehanna, skeet shooting at the quarry, and zipping around his property on an ATV with Edna or kids in tow. For over four decades, Roger, along with his friends and family, enjoyed a multigenerational football betting pool. Roger was smart, funny, kind and loved by so many.

Roger and Edna recently left the woods behind and were welcomed into a new community {Kendal at Longwood} in Kennett Square, PA.

Roger was the beloved father/stepfather to Michael Bauer, Michael Liebman (Sharon), Lisa Liebman (Steve Sav) and Amy Liebman (Tim Dunn) and grandfather to Aaron, Ben, Seth, Sam, Gabe and Meira as well as Alisha and Michaela.  He took great pride in the accomplishments of his children and grandchildren.

A memorial service is planned for this summer.

If desired, in lieu of flowers, friends may contribute in Roger’s name to Migrant Clinicians Network— www.migrantclinician.org or Pennsylvania’s Northeast Regional Food Bank—ceopeoplehelpingpeople.org
