Rosemary Gargiulo Obituary

Rosemary Root Gargiulo of Landenberg, Pennsylvania died peacefully in the early morning of April 2, 2022 at Penn Medicine Hospice in the arms of her close family.  Born in Passaic, NJ, to Constance and William Edward Root, she was raised in Chester, Pennsylvania with subsequent moves to West Chester, Media, Rutledge and Kings Park, NY.  She and her husband, James, returned to the Philadelphia area in 2018 after 28 years on Long Island.

Rosemary is survived by her husband, James; her daughter, Lisa (Otis) of Bryn Mawr; her son, James of South Philadelphia and her brother, Richard Root of Wilmington, DE.  In addition, she was a major part of the Gargiulo family that included Peter and Pat Gargiulo, Paul and Donna Gargiulo, Elizabeth (deceased) and Stephen St. Martin, John (deceased) and Kathie Gargiulo, Tom and Zoya Gargiulo and more than twenty-five nieces, nephews and their children.

Rosemary was a 1977 graduate of West Chester University where she was one of the first women to join the Golden Ram Marching Band.  Her love of music was the focus of her life, teaching music education at Elwyn and volunteering many hours to the Kings Park and Hauppauge High School music programs.  Over the years she became an exceptional chef, taking in classes in New York City and Tuscany and showing off her skills for family and friends.  Her love of family, music, food and travel set the theme of her life.

Rosemary life will be celebrated with a visitation from 10:00AM until 12:00PM with a memorial service at 12:00PM on Thursday, April 7, 2022 at the LONGWOOD FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION of MATTHEW GENEREUX, 913 East Baltimore Pike, Kennett Square, Pennsylvania.

A luncheon reception will follow the funeral home service at the Kennett Square Golf and Country Club, 100 E. Locust Lane, Kennett Square.

In lieu of flowers, Rosemary requested that donations be made to the West Chester University Foundation’s Wells School of Music Ensemble Fund.  See  https://go.wcufoundation.org/donate/som-travel
