Thomas R. Cresswell

Obituary

Thomas “Tom” Cresswell, of West Chester, PA, tragically passed away on Friday, February 28th, surrounded by family following a valiant sixteen-month battle against two late-stage cancers. He was 69 years old. Tom was a loving husband and steadfast father with an incredibly big heart, warm smile, and great sense of humor. He was a standout high school football player at Manheim Township (Lancaster, PA) and earned an associate’s degree from Wesley College. After graduating, Tom founded Sports Car Tire, a successful tire and wheel business in Wilmington, DE, which he co-owned and operated for more than twenty-five years.

A die-hard Philly sports fan, Tom was a Phillies season ticket holder for over two decades, had Flyers season tickets, and relished watching the Eagles recently win their second Super Bowl. Go Birds! He loved traveling the world—Croatia, Italy, Hawaii, and Aruba were among his favorite places. Spending time in Mt. Gretna, PA and Delray Beach, FL with family and at horse tracks with friends were a few of his favorite pastimes.

Tom was mathematically gifted and enjoyed applying his skills to analyze stocks or sports. He attended the Kentucky Derby multiple times as well as the 2015 Triple Crown winning Belmont Stakes race. His adoration of dogs – Keeper, Rally, Viggen, Essex, Beatrice, Bentley, and Aston to name a few – was widely known, and it was reciprocated as dogs equally adored him and his liberal dispensing of dog treats.

Throughout his life, Tom overcame adversity, and everything he accomplished was due to his drive to provide and care for others. He was immensely loyal and strong—someone who would always go to bat for you. His numerous friends and family admired, loved, and respected Tom. He will be missed forever.

Tom was preceded in death by his father, Thomas G. Cresswell. Tom is survived by his wife, Suzanne Cresswell (Seldomridge); his sister, Ann Whitmyer (Tim); his daughter, Liz; his son, Kevin; as well as five nieces and nephews, and a large extended family.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Tom’s honor can be made to the Appendix Cancer Pseudomyxoma Peritonei Research Foundation click here to donate or to the Chester County Migrant Ministry

An intimate memorial celebration is being held for Tom privately.
