Wayne Pollock, Sr. Obituary

Wayne C. Pollock Sr., age 84, died peacefully surrounded by family at his home in Kennett Square, PA on November 16, 2022. He was the only child born to K. Annetta Pollock Hanauer and George Pollock on July 10, 1938 in Baltimore, MD.

He attended City College High in Baltimore, where he was involved in many sports and the school choir. He graduated Dickinson College with a BS in Biology and was an active member in the ROTC and later served in the Army Reserves.  During his college years, he was a member of the Lacrosse National Championship team.

In 1960, Wayne married his college sweetheart Barbara Mahn. They went on to have three children and resided in Riverton, New Jersey until her passing.  Wayne enjoyed supporting youth organizations and participated via his many roles such as YMCA sponsored Indian Guide, little league coach, and league official for youth football.

Early on in his career, Wayne pursued his interests in Marine Biology and then shifted his career visions to the corporate world consulting in the paper and plastics industries.  At the age of 37, Wayne started a very successful pharmaceutical consulting business working with companies such as Bertech Pharmaceuticals, St. Regis Paper Company, Scott Paper Company, Dupont, and Johnson & Johnson.  He was later employed by Scapa Pharmaceuticals.  After retirement, Wayne continued in the field, and he and his partners developed Axxia Pharmaceuticals.  Over his career, Wayne received 11 patents on transdermal delivery systems.

Wayne married Barbro Berndtsson when he was 59, and before his passing, they spent more than 25 wonderful years together. They took many trips, most of them included fishing which was one of Wayne’s great passions.  They frequently traveled to Europe spending the most time in Barbro’s homeland of Sweden.

At home, he loved to spend time with family and friends, read about nature and science, watch sports, and cook on the grill while enjoying a good glass of wine.  You could often find him in his “man cave” tying fly hooks for his fishing rods.

Wayne attended church services regularly and served as a Vestry member and Chalice Bearer at Christ Episcopal Church in Riverton, NJ.  Because of his love for music and singing, he was a member of several church choirs throughout his years.  His tenor was heard by many parishioners, most recently at St. Mary Anne’s Episcopal Church in North East, MD.

Wayne was preceded in death by his father George in 1985, mother K. Annetta in 1990 and first wife Barbara in 1996.  He is survived by his wife Barbro; his children Kathy (Pollock) & husband William Boyd, Wayne Junior & wife Caryn, Tom & wife Lisa; his stepchildren, Joakim Alvarez & wife Joy (Pinizzotto), Anna (Alvarez) & husband Mike Skurecki Jr.; his grandchildren Elizabeth & Ryan Genzemer, Joshua & Elizabeth Boyd, Benjamin & Nikki Boyd, Zachary Boyd, Wayne lll & Marissa Pollock, Jonathan & Amber Barnhart, Nicholas Pollock & fiancé Emily, Thomas Pollock Jr. and Christopher Pollock; great grandchildren Raye Genzemer, Blake Boyd, Madeline and Tristan Pollock, Lillian and Jackson Barnhart; grandpups Molly and Penelope.
