Carmella: Tom and I are so sorry for your loss. Bill was a great guy to work with and our time at the State Police was memorable. He always had a joke and a smile for anyone he met. We will keep you and your family in our thoughts and prayers.

To the Davis Family,

Bill will be sorely missed. He was a tremendous guy with a great personality and sense of humor. Our many conversations over coffee in the early mornings in Trenton will be fondly recalled. And of course, he was, as we like to say, "a good Trooper." Deepest condolences.

Carmella, Debbie and I were deeply saddened when we heard of Bill's passing. Hard for us to believe that someone as full of life is not with us anymore. I will always remember his friendliness, upbeat personality, and appreciation of his life and family. His optimism in the face of the health complications he faced was both incredible and inspirational. This world lost a good man! Our condolences to you and your family. Jack and Debbie Smith

Bill Davis Memorial
December 2, 2016

By Kathie Northrup Platt

Bill was always like a big brother to me. While I was still in elementary school, he and his family moved into the big house on Pennsylvania Avenue directly behind our house on Evergreen Road. I was immediately drawn to this tall, handsome guy with the broad smile, resounding voice, and twinkle in his eye. Bill had a wonderful sense of humor and was a gifted storyteller, who always returned home while on leave during his Coast Guard years to share his exploits at sea. When he became a New Jersey State trooper, Bill inspired even greater awe and respect in me and I knew that I would hate to be caught speeding along his section of highway!

I was delighted when Bill married Carmella, whom he always teased about being older than he. Theirs was a love affair that lasted decades, and I never failed to sense their deep love for one another expressed through their playful banter, gentle ribbing of each other, attentive kindnesses, and joy of married life and family.

During my turbulent teenage years, both Bill and Carmella played the role of big brother and sister to me, often inviting me to their home for an exquisite Italian meal, offering me their rapt attention and wise counsel as I confessed the deepest secrets and struggles of my youth. When I finally married Mike, a man whom they both highly approved, they were both there supporting me, Carm as matron of honor, and Bill as the prankster who decorated our getaway car with shaving cream, filling it with rice that poured out the doors as we sped away.

Although living so far away in Texas has reduced our contact to occasional visits over the years, every reunion has been like a homecoming, and I was delighted when my own daughters, Emily and Laura, finally met Bill and his wonderful family.
Most recently Laura and I have spent time with Bill and Carm in their beautiful retirement home in Cochranville, each time getting lost as we navigated the backcountry roads, Bill patiently guiding us in because we had relied on the wrong GPS to lead the way!

Both Laura and Bill shared a special love of singing, Bill as a member of several winning barbershop choruses, and Laura for musical theatre. How deeply we sensed Bill’s disappointment when he had to give up singing, one of the greatest delights of his life. But Bill could not contain his love of people, his love of life, and despite physical struggles, his love grew even stronger through the years, ever finding new channels for expression. Bill will be remembered best for his generosity, his energy, his humor, and his welcoming love that he shared freely with his children, grandchildren, family, neighbors and friends, a love that he especially poured out on his beloved Carmella. How we all hoped and prayed for his new heart to work, to give him many more years with us. But how the love he shared— his big and generous heart-- remains with us, and will never die.

Carm, Kim and Michael. I only met with your husband and dad three times as a newly found cousin. He was truly unique and I am terribly saddened by his sudden and unexpected passing. We were planning a trip to Gettysburg Battlefield to see a couple of the monuments where his and my greatgrandfather was listed. It would be your great-great-grandfather. While he was part of my family, I considered him as a friend as well. I'm glad that I got to meet my cousin and know him.
